Jiuzhou (Andy) Chen, I'm senior at Deerfield Academy, a dedicated pre-college student at the New England Conservatory of Music. Under the instructors Dr. Jonathan Bass, Yumei Wei, Thomas Bergeron, and Dr. David Foster, I have thrived as a piano soloist, chamber musician, and composer. Beginning playing the piano at the age of five, I have developed a deep specialization in piano performance.
I have achieved numerous accolades from prestigious competitions, Including 1st place and the Exceptional Young Talent Special Prize at the International Music Competition Salzburg "Grand Prize Virtuoso" (2020), First place in chamber music for International Grand Music Competition (2021), Distinguished Gold Medal at the 2023 Classical Viennese Festival, Top performer and First Place in the International 2023 New Star Piano Competition, Silver Medal at the 5th WPTA Finland International Piano Competition (2023), Platinum Prize in the 2024 World Master Open Music Competition, and First Place in the 2024 Charleston International Music Competition.
Andy Chen
As a member of the Junior Chamber Music for six years and a contributor to Deerfield Academy’s Chamber Music program for two years, I have established myself as a significant presence in the classical music world. My compositional achievements include writing a symphony that was performed by 52 musicians before an audience of over 1,000 people. My compositional style is grounded in classical techniques such as harmony, counterpoint, and orchestration.
Beyond my musical endeavors, I am passionate about community service. I've organized concerts with children with autism, raising $7,000 to support their continued music education.
In addition to my musical accomplishments, I'm also a dedicated researcher. I compete in the Math Olympiad and have developed an AI music generation model using hyperbolic geometry, which earned me the Best Paper award at the CONF-MPCS. I presented my findings in a TEDx Talk. Outside of academics and music, I also enjoy playing tennis in my free time.
